For The Love of Whitespace

When whitespacelovers are not busy eating, breathing and loving designs, they’re usually working as designers for creative agencies.
Here’s an entry, written by yours truly, at PubliGestion’s Bloggers Block—a blog where I also co-write. It’s a celebration or more like a tribute to The Swiss Style Design also known as, International Typographic Style or International Style. Without it our appreciation for excellent designs will not be the same. Of course, this is a visual design blog, so here are some visual goodies I created for this entry at PubliGestion.

Okay, let’s be happy today. It’s the weekend! Just found these illustrations that we could all get amused with. No complicated designs or effects today, just nice colors and lines. 
Personally, I’m amused by how technology has evolved. Now we could draw straight in the computer using Wacom. Would really love to have a Wacom Cintiq one of these days, it’ll be a good upgrade to my Wacom Bamboo. 
And I need to say it again, whitespace is not always white.

Milk & Whitespace

An ad we did at PubliGestion for NB magazine. One of the first ads in Haiti to have this much whitespace.

Designer lands in Haiti like little David in front of a design Frankenstein goliath of clashing colors, shouting fonts and busy background. But David meets him, mouse in hand, Mac Book Pro on the other. He triumphs! Yey! 
It’s a real challenge to spar with the common design sense in Haiti, where less is not more and where whitespace is a waste. But if you ask me, it’s also the reason why a brand should be  celebrated for coming up with an ad that is clean and with plenty of whitespace. 
We never thought that such a clean predominantly white layout could ever see the light of production, but we were wrong. Client approved the design! So let’s celebrate the Viva ad for it’s clean layout and generous whitespace—a rarity in Haiti. Yey!

Hello World: Whitespace Love is On!

Finally, after much mental masturbation and procrastinating (since, errr, last year), Whitespacelover blog is up and running! Writing you from the sunny island, Haiti.

Much could be said about trying to be things which you’re not, and that is the excuse for the delayed release of this blog: if you’re a graphic designer you don’t try to code CSS for a blog template, that’s like trying to become fluent in Chinese in 10 seconds! It’s a real waste of time. You’re better off reciting all Photoshop hotkeys to impress the ladies.

So without further blah blahs, let me introduce you to Whitespacelover—an online space for my portfolio, recent works and anything of visual nature! Expect a few tips and tricks along the way and from time to time, some emo entries, so bear with me. But for the most part we’ll all be love, life and peace.
